Bonnie See

Extraordinary, compelling composition, with the bare lacy branches and the strong sidewalk lines leading to that fine building; meanwhile, the sharp glimpses of the side streets make me want to walk around the corners to see what is there. L/F

Larry Braun replied:

Wow Bonnie, I am awed by your glowing comments on my work. You have excellent writing skills along with your creative visual expressions. Yes the courtyard square is a joy to explore.

Designed by Chicago architect Alfred H. Piquenard who along with John C. Cochrane was also responsible for the designs of the Illinois and Iowa State Capitols. The building was completed in 1878 for about $120,000. It is located on the same public square as the previous courthouses surrounded by commercial buildings. It is noteworthy for its stone construction and its rather simple interpretation of the French Renaissance Revival style.
