Photographer Larry Braun documents local history
In the 1970s, Larry Braun could be found in the South China Sea, serving in the United States Navy on the USS Midway. The 66 - year – old Vietnam War veteran never wouldhave anticipated back then that four decades later, he would be a retired chemist with a love for digital art and photography.

Some of his first images, captured on film, were taken when the ship docked in places like Singapore, Japan, the Philippines, Korea and Hong Kong. He still has those images on slides, keepsakes of a different time.

But before his first piece of art ever decorated the walls of banks or hospitals where many Braun originals can now be...

Photographer Braun Produces Historic Houses For The Birds

Posted: Tuesday, July 18, 2017 12:48 pm
One of the many projects Larry Braun has taken on recently is using his camera to chronicle the historic houses in Ste. Genevieve.
For what final purposes are yet to be determined, but Braun has a couple different options, including one involving birdhouses that he began this spring.
When the Ste. Genevieve Art Guild issued challenges for three-dimensional art for its May show, Braun was stumped for a bit.
“I said, ‘I don’t make 3-D stuff,’” Braun said.

But he remembered a conversation with a professor at Mineral Area College who wanted to put his photos into a template for birdhouses.
The idea was reborn for that Fourth Friday Art Walk Show in May.

“That wasn’t a historic house,” Braun said. “That was just one I cobbled together.”

But the idea grew to produce the centerpieces for Braun’s own show in the June Fourth Friday Art Walk that debuted birdhouses with photos of Ste....

Larry Brauns Photo Three Red Buds Chosen For Exhibit

Each year, the Community Arts Center hosts Horizon: Contemporary Landscape, an exhibit designed to test the limits of what we think of when we hear the word landscape, blurring the lines between the traditional and experimental. While many artists portray classic landscape paintings, others delve into more abstract realms, submitting everything from collage and photography to mixed media and cast metal sculpture.

This exhibit is juried, which means that jurors or judges select which paintings will be displayed. A first, second and third prize are also given by the jurors to the artists whose works display artistic excellence and strength of execution.

We are finished accepting entries for the 2015 exhibit. Thanks to everyone who submitted their work!

Larry Braun Photo Recieved 3rd Place Award At Mingo NWR Photo Contest

FAA Photographer Larry Braun's Photo titled "Lone Cypress" received third place in the Mingo NWR photo contest this year. The cypress in this image is well lighted by late evening sunshine, which gives the leaves a vibrant glow. Still wind conditions created a glass like surface on the water making an almost perfect reflection, obscured slightly by the duck weed floating on the surface.

Quiet Evening, On The Mississippi By FAA Photographer On Display

Quiet Evening a Fine Art Print is now on display at the Jean A. Chapman Gallery at 32 North Main Street, in Cape Girardeau Missouri.
This long exposure photo was taken from the Red Start Landing looking south toward the Emerson Memorial Bridge, over the Mississippi River.
The time of day was just after sunset, and the sky was full of stunning red colors. A long exposure was used to capture the deep red hues that are in the sky at this time of the day. City lights along the river banks were just appearing creating a broken reflection in the water.
